I ride my bike to work… I'm a bike commuter

It’s February 6th and I have yet to ride my bike this year.   Quite the drought here for miles.

Strange part is I’m not missing it that much either.

New job is keeping me busy, but that’s not really why I’m not riding.

Guess I just need a break for a bit.

Not a Ride in Sight

So 2016 is here and I have yet to saddle up and ride.   Zero.  Zilch.  Nada.   Not a single mile.

Not sure what this year will hold in regards to my cycling.

Mother nature is walloping us here with an ice storm right now.   Maybe I’ll re-live my teen years and go out “ice riding” on my GT?   Would be fun, but at my age, if I break something I’ll be done for a few months.   With age comes wisdom, right?

Freezing Temps & a New Job

Not riding much yet this year.   And by “much” I mean “any.”   Zero miles so far.

Still haven’t decided what my goals for this year will be.   New job is going to keep me plenty busy.  Not a bad thing at all.   I came from a job where I had WAY TOO MUCH down time.  I don’t do well with idle time.

It’s also 22 degrees out this morning.  Windchill is down in the lower-teens.

Those of you that know me know I don’t do WIND, let alone “winter” wind.   Nope!   I’ll pass.

So that is where I stand.   New job is going really well.   Knee deep in work and loving it.

8 Days Left

It’s been a good year on the bike.   I like that phrase.  “Been a good year on the bike.”

I’m 47 years-old and I still ride my bike.  It keeps me young.  I’m still fast.  I can still do a 20-mile ride in a blink of an eye.   I like that.

2016 is right around the corner.   Will it be a “good year on the bike?”   If I have any input into it, yes, it will be.

Just not sure what my plans are.   I’m starting a new job.   I will be traveling.  I’ll be busy.   I will need to carve out time to keep my cycling in the forefront.

I recently bought a NordicTrac elliptical that will keep my winter activity at a high level.  I’m very happy that I finally have that piece of equipment here in my house.   I will use it quite a bit this winter.

I’m excited for 2106.   8 days left.

Then it all starts over again.

Winding Down

It’s been a great year on the bike.   I’m happy with the miles I racked up this year.  I’m ecstatic with how many days I got out on the bike this year.   All in all, great numbers.   Not my best, but that wasn’t my goal this year.

2016 is right around the corner and I honestly have no idea what that holds for me.

I’m starting a new job after being at my last job for the past 15 years.   It’s been a LONG TIME since I’ve been “the new guy.”  Gonna be an interesting January.

Right now, I’m enjoying some vacation time.   Nothing to do and all day to do it.    I’m loving it.

Who knows?  Maybe I’ll get out on my bike today.

Three Days Without A Ride

Three (3) days without a ride.  It feels kind of nice.   A bit of a break.

I’m ready to ride again, though.

Trying to hatch up a plan for 2016 and my bike.   What do I want to achieve?   I think every cyclist goes through this mental prep each year around this time.

As I look at my mileage totals and the number of days I rode this year, I can sit back with a smile at what I accomplished.  My only real goal was to average 100 miles a month here.   I’m averaging roughly 115 miles a month, so I’m good there.

The “streak” was something that just came about.   5 days of consecutive riding turned into 10, then 20 and it continued to morph into what it became.   222 days.

The total number of days I rode (321 days as of this post) is the most I have ever ridden.   I didn’t miss many days, that’s for sure.   While the rides I did weren’t of any great distance, I made it a goal of mine to jump on my bike about 94% of the time this year.

All that goes away though when the clock strikes midnight on Dec. 31st.

A new year is awaiting me.

Time to start figuring out what lies ahead for me and my cycling.

Stay tuned….

The Streak is Over

222 days in a row.   That is the way I wanted it to be.  Sure, I could’ve kept riding.   And I will probably get in 10 or more rides before the year is over here, but I wanted to be in control of when my streak ended.   I didn’t want some “event” to dictate the end of my streak, so I pulled the plug yesterday.

It was a great streak.  222 days.  Over 950 miles accumulated.

I’m happy (and at peace) with my decision.

Now I need to figure out what my next challenge on the bike will be.
